The Wilderness Experience International Survival School Summer Course
is the first phase of a two part programme designed to equip the individual
with all the necessary woodcraft and wilderness living skills needed to
overcome any adversity encountered during expeditions, wilderness treks
or even their every day life.
Established in 1956 this programme has a phenomenal track record of success
and is run in the verdant wilds of the Swedish boreal forests, the area
covered during exercises and field study lies in Värmland where Elk,
Lynx, Wolves and even Bears still rome free.
The temperate zone course not only covers all the fundamental skills required
of a good woodsman but many more interesting and diverse subjects including:
• First aid training in wilderness emergency situations
• Normal equipment for survival techniques and wilderness travel
• Strategis for extreme situations
• Search and rescue techniques of SAR’s teams with a liaison
exercise.
• Distress signals
• What you eat in the wilderness - edible plants and fungi
• How to prepared different types of food using primitive techniques
• How to keep Warm-Dry-Fed
• Strategies for coping with being alone in the wilderness
• How to read a map and correct use of a compass. Navigation across
rough terrain and alternative compass types.
• Self rescue strategies - finding your way to help
• Psychology in emergency situations.
Lead by the renowned outdoorsman and wilderness guide Preben Mortensen
your instructional staff are an international team of experts selected
to provide you with the very best training available - but please
be aware this is not a holiday and all participants will need to have
attended a basic entry level course run by a reputable school or similar
as we will assume that they have a good basic knowledge of outdoor life
and can take care of themselves in ordinary camping and wilderness situations.
It is essential that all participants are well motivated to learn all
the techniques covered as this challenging yet highly rewarding course
is not just a sort of “holiday with a difference” spiced with
a few adventure activities it is a practical hands on event which will
see you gaining a vast array of knowledge, skill and self confidence the
more you put into it.
Upon completing and PASSING this course you can be justifiably proud of
having earned and been awarded your WEISS badge.
